Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026
Meloclip ("we", "us") is an iOS app operated by Crolab, a French company whose full details are on the Legal Notice page. Crolab is the data controller. This policy explains what the app collects, why, where it goes, and what you can ask us to do about it.
The one thing worth knowing up front: to write down the notes in your video, the audio has to be analysed on our servers — an iPhone cannot run these models on its own. That upload is described in detail below.
What we collect
- Nothing, to start with. You can use Meloclip without creating an account. The app opens an anonymous session so your work is saved on your device.
- Your email address — only if you choose to create an account, either directly or through Sign in with Apple. If you use Apple's private relay, we only ever see the relay address.
- The media you import — the videos and audio files you choose to transcribe, and any link you paste. See the section below for what happens to them.
- Your projects — the transcribed notes, your edits, and the name you give each project.
- Purchase status — whether you have an active subscription. Payments are handled entirely by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details.
- Crash and usage diagnostics — anonymous technical reports that tell us the app broke, and aggregate product analytics that tell us which screens are used. Neither contains your media.
What happens to the video you import
This is the part that matters most, so here is the whole chain:
- You pick a video or audio file, or paste a link.
- The app extracts the audio and sends it to our transcription service, hosted on Modal, in the United States.
- The service separates the piano from the rest, detects every note, and sends back a list of notes and timings.
- The audio and any temporary file created to process it are deleted from the server once the job is finished. We do not keep a library of your media, and we never listen to it.
- The notes come back to your phone and your project is stored on your device. The original video stays in your photo library — the app only points to it.
If you export a clip, the same server composes the video and deletes it after you download it.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your data. There is nobody to sell it to and no ad network in this app.
- We never keep your videos or audio recordings after transcription.
- We never use your media to train models.
- We never share your data with third parties beyond the service providers listed below, each of which only sees what it needs to do its job.
Camera, microphone and photo library
Meloclip asks for these only when you use the matching feature, and iOS will always ask you first:
- Photo library — to let you pick a piano video to transcribe.
- Camera and microphone — only if you choose to record a performance directly in the app.
You can revoke any of these at any time in iOS Settings. The rest of the app keeps working.
Who processes data for us
- Supabase — accounts and project sync.
- Modal — the transcription and export service described above (United States).
- Apple — payments, Sign in with Apple, app distribution.
- RevenueCat — subscription status management.
- Sentry — anonymous crash reports.
- PostHog — aggregate product analytics.
Some of these are located outside the European Union. Transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep things
- Imported audio on our servers — deleted as soon as the transcription or export finishes.
- Your account and projects — for as long as your account exists.
- Diagnostics — a rolling window of up to 90 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and everything attached to it from inside the app, in Settings → Delete account. It is immediate and it is not reversible. Projects stored only on your device disappear when you delete the app.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it, and you can object to processing. Write to support@meloclip.app and we will answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.
Children
Meloclip is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will remove it.
The videos you import
Meloclip does not give you any rights over the music or videos you import. You are responsible for having the right to use the material you bring into the app, and for how you use what you export. See our Terms.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app.
